In Belongas the Mobula Rays have come together for a spectacular underwater show at one of our famous dive sites Gili Sarang, South Lombok. 25 – 30 Mobula rays dancing around each other right next to the reef while in between the multi-coloured soft corals were blue spotted stingrays elevating themselves up around 2-3 feet in synchrony.
Victor an Instructor from Spain was blown away by this performance, as was our PADI Divemaster Pii who said this was the first time he had ever encountered such an event. Our other PADI Divemaster’s Rein and Andi accompanied them to learn and master the dive site in preparation for the upcoming season. They all describe it as watching an orchestra.
Gili Sarang is a dive site that by its self takes your breath away, it is a pinnacle that peaks out the surface with a sloping edge reaching down to 40 meters. It is full of soft corals and rocks which of course attract harlequin shrimps, sea cobras, pygmy seahorses, a range of moray eels and much more. Surrounded by the blue water you will find massive schools of barracuda, rays and a variety of sharks. There is something for everybody at this dive site, a must see and experience.
While south-west of Gili Sarang we have another favourite “The Magnet” famous for schools of hammerheads reaching around 50 sharks in one dive. So far we have spotted 5-15 which tells us that the season is near and we are expecting even more spectacular sites and mind blowing dives.
So fellow divers all we can say now is that this is just the beginning of an amazing season!!
