Small is beautiful – South Gili Lombok goes macro!
Most divers want the big stuff, but there are so many beautiful tiny and unique creatures in the sea that it would be a shame to ignore them. For macro and muck-divers, small is most definitely beautiful. They are not blown away by a manta or a shark gliding past – they just want to get up close with the marine creatures of lesser stature but no less fascination.
This week in south gilis Lombok … Gannon Murphy the photographer of the fabulous “hippolytidae”, also known as broken-back shrimp had a lot to do. Our creatures were showing off and give their best for the camera. We saw all kind of shrimp and crustaceans; a black and a green giant frogfish; orange thorny seahorse; different kinds of flabellina nudibranch; white leaffish; ornate ghost-pipefish and many more! Also we like to say congratulations to our homies the pygmy seahorse, they add on and expect juniors coming soon!
We had old friends from malaysia diving with us. There heart is beating for macro and muck-life. At there night dive they saw blue ring octopus; a flamboyant cuttlefish and sensationally two spanish dancer nudibranch. There are into photography as well and were not disappointed from our fellers. Seems like the south gilis are becoming a catwalk for macro and muck- life!
Hope to see you with us in South Lombok soon…

I promise it’s in focus in the full resolution version 🙂
