T
his week in Lembongan… The seas have been calm and flat, allowing us some great chances to nip around to the south coast of Nusa Pendia to the famous manta sites. Although Manta Point hasn’t had the number of mantas that it normally has, Manta Bay has been the site of choice for these hungry manta rays to feed. This week has also been full of students, with instructor Bryce and divemaster Yayan introducing 4 students to the world of diving. During their courses, all 4 students had the chance to see manta rays. Ella and Ale were the first 2 open water students of the week, unfortunately the manta rays were a little shy at Manta Point, so the team decided to check in at Manta Bay on the way to the next dive site. Once reached, captain Dedi brought the boat slowly around the bays to see if we could spot any mantas feeding at the surface and to everyone’s joy, there were 3 manta rays feeding. The guests on the boat quickly put their snorkeling equipment on and jumped in, to witness these beautiful creatures. Even the ones that stayed on the boat were able to get a good clear view of them, as they swam close to the boat and close to the surface.
Justine and Melissa were the 2nd group of open water students this week and with the great experience our guests had earlier in the week snorkeling at Manta Bay, we decided to take them for dive 3 of their course at Manta Bay. Once again the manta rays were there feeding at the surface. While Justine and Melissa where putting their equipment on in the water, (one of the skills for the course) one manta ray came very close to say hi and to see what they were doing. Once we had completed all the skills we needed to do underwater, we were able to explore the dive site, where we all had the chance to see around 3 or 4 manta rays underwater.
Manta rays can be seen in our waters all year round. Manta Bay and Manta Point are located in the south part of Nusa Penida. The south side of Penida can be effected by waves and wind. If the sea condition is too ruff, it may not be possible for us to get round to these sites but we will try our best to get you out to these dive sites while you are here diving with us.
