In the North Gilis, Lombok this week we have had a rise of the banded sea snake. We used to often see them around various dive sites up here but we have not spotted one for a few weeks now. This week at Frogfish point North Gili Air we have spotted 3 on different occasions. They are fairly fat beasts here not the usual slender banded sea snake, must be a lot of good food for them in this area.
We dive around Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air on a daily basis and one thing that has been noticed is that not so many dive centers dive around Gili Air, when they do it tends to be Frogfish point and Hans Reef when in fact Gili Air for myself is one of the better islands to dive. Gili Air wall the West side of Gili Air is a fantastic dive, a massive wall where the top of it is 12 meters and it drops down to 27. The wall itself is full of colourful soft coral that reminds me of diving Belongas in the South of Lombok. Another beautiful site is Bat fish Point which is situated the North side of Gili Air, West from Bat fish Point. It is a shallow dive of 15 meters, slowly sloping bottom with islands of coral reef scattered going north to west. We often find such a variety of sea life there ranging from small stuff like crabs, shrimps, pipe fish, ribbon eels, garden eels to the pelargic’s of trevally, barracuda, long jaw mackerel, rainbow runners and Eagle rays which was spotted just two days ago!! The corals range from soft feather stars, sponge barrels to table corals and staghorn. Such lovely diving around Gili Air, I am always recommending it to our divers and appreciated is what they are at the end of the day!!! Don’t miss it divers, you won’t regret it 🙂
