Hey folks!
So Here I am in Bunaken Island and after a little over a week and I can tell you I have survived! You can say I have thrown myself into the deep end with this my first days of diving were straight to learning a rescue course then starting on my Divemaster training with Instructor Markus and the other DMT Romana (who is at a similar level of experience to myself). It’s been a big learning curve doing all the skills especially with my search patterns often ending in a strange zig zag. The learning has been helped by getting a lot of laughs from Markus, Romana and the local two fish guides. These guys at times can be a little bit mischievous, giving you different scenarios like pretending to be a diver who forgets all their fins, mask, runs low on air or does some sort of weird swimming technique.
On another note I have been really enjoying the diving here so far it’s my first experience with wall diving and there is really nothing like descending down a vertical wall for the first time, covered in beautiful corals with turtles gracefully swimming past you. Not to mention all of the other weird and wonderful creatures who live in and around the walls of Bunaken. I am really looking forward to our next skills session but never know what surprises are around the corner. Possibly time for a cold Bintang right now could be a nice reward for another challenging day!
Jason Ellacott.
