They say time flies when you’re having fun and it’s mad that I have just one week left on my Divemaster course. One of the tasks I’ve got left to do is to demonstrate the set of 24 skills, so yesterday it was back in the pool for a few hours of practice. We first went through these on my second day and I felt clumsy at best on all of them. Even the very first one – showing new divers how to put their kit together – needs thought and practice. When we become overly familiar with something we tend to do it on auto-pilot. Think of the number of times you’ve driven a car with little memory – or concentration – on part (or all !?) of your journey. Yesterday was much better on the skills. I’ve slowed down and have improved vastly since that second day. But then again, when I demonstrated putting the kit together I somehow managed to completely miss out the entire stage of inflating and deflating my BCD so still work to be done!
Cheers
Ian
