The amazing diversity of diving in the Secret Gilis and Belongas Bay is unlike any other with diving for all levels of divers from beginner to those who are looking for more of a challenge. For those who prefer looking for the small, big or just love swimming across the beautiful coral gardens.
We start in the Secret Gilis with a dive site called the sands which is a personal favourite of the staff here. The Sands is a dive site on the island called Gili Layer and is our famous muck dive. On this dive site if it’s small and cool you can find it here and even to this day we find stuff we have never seen here before.
On the Sands, you can find mimic octopus, Wunderpus, ambon scorpion fish, hairy frog fish, harlequin shrimp, tiger shrimp, ornate ghost pipe fish, Cuttle fish, bobtail squid, ndui’s galure and the list could go on forever.
Now we move to the outer reefs of the Secret Gilis where we find the famous surfing site desert point to a dive site named Jay’s Cathedral where things start to get a little more exciting. This dive site is where you need a little more experience as the depth is at 30 meters and can have some pretty strong currents ending as a drift dive on some occasions.
Jay’s Cathedral is a set of underwater ridges connected by an amphitheatre which can sometimes require a negative entry to get to as the dive site does not breach the surface. This dive site is home to some absolutely beautiful corals reefs and a chance to see something a little bigger. When you dive this site, you have a very good chance to see white tip reef sharks, giant travelle, Barracuda, napoleon wrasse and not to mention some awesome topography with a couple of swim throughs.
