Lembeh is well known for its incredible diving but what is there to do out of the water in Lembeh. Well, aside from relaxing on the beach or enjoying an afternoon snooze in a hammock there is one main highlight. Tangkoko National Park.
Tangkoko national park is around a 1 hour drive away from our harbour at Lembeh. It is a great destination to pass away your no fly time and it can even be done in an afternoon if you aren’t diving.
Tangkoko is most famous for housing one of the world’s smallest mammals, the Tarsier. The tarsier is a tiny tiny monkey and could fit in the palm of your hand. Their bodies mostly consist of two giant eyes which help these nocturnal animals navigate around the dark forests at night.
If you are on an afternoon walk you may be lucky to see them sleeping in a tree but in order to get the full experience then the night walks are for you, with hikers managing to see them out an about, jumping from tree to tree.
The other famous residents of Tangkoko are the Black Macaque. There are a few troops of these primates wandering around the forest and they have become very casual around tourists, meaning you can get that amazing natgeo style photo from your travels. Although you’d do well to beat the infamous “Macaque Selfie”.
As well as these list toppers you also have the opportunity to see Cuscus, a small marsupial who also lives high in the trees. You can also find numerous birds and bugs. Twitchers and entomologists will be in their element! And if you’re into it, at night then giant tarantulas can also be seen scurrying about.
There is an entrance fee to the park and you also need to pay your guide on arrival as well, depending on how long you want the walk to be.
You can go and explore while our driver waits for your return and bring you back to Lembeh. Or if you are moving on to the airport or another destination then there are a couple of Tangkoko home stays that you can spend the night and get the full Tangkoko experience!

Hola jorge
Muchas gracias por sus comentarios, pero Dani y Ana no han estado trabajando con nosotros desde mayo de 2018. No estoy seguro, pero creo que están en Tailandia en algún lugar trabajando con otro operador.
Un cordial saludo – Nigel
Hi Jorge,
Many thanks for your comments, but Dani & Ana have not been working with us since May 2018, I believe that they are back in Thailand somewhere working with someone else.
Kind regards – Nigel
