Bali Divemaster Training: Fred’s Update
I have now completed my physical tests and all of them went well, although, I wish I’d trained more for the 15min tread before doing it… and I definitely need to work on my standard swimming, it’s almost shameful! Anyways, I passed this part!
My final skills circuit still has to be evaluated, but I’m confident in my skills to succeed. I have also assisted on a few Discover Scuba Diving courses, and helped PADI Open Water Diver students and I’ve even led some scuba review programs for the PADI Reactivate program. It’s crazy how much you can lose and regain your skills after such a short or long time without diving. The passion for diving never gets lost apparently, even after 12 years without diving!
Bali Divemaster Trainee Fred has just one week to go until he finishes his program.
During my Bali Divemaster training I’ve also got to meet people doing their PADI Open Water course in Bali, and they’d never put their heads underwater with a mask before – they just decided they wanted to be divers and were ready to try it!
I’ve also been able to get involved with the IDC – the Instructor Development Course.which is running at the moment. That’s a lot of fun, if you are planning to take the PADI IDC be prepared to be paranoid when your Course Director asks a Divemaster trainee to help be a student in your class. I was asked to perform skills but deliberately make mistakes – it was a lot of fun but pretty intense for the Instructor candidates! I had a lot of fun though pretending to be a distressed diver!
Being a Bali Divemaster trainee I am learning a lot. Being a Divemaster is a great job and a lot of fun but you have to work hard too and be diligent. I’ve seen it can be hard when you have students who are struggling or not listening but I’ve seen how the pros here at Two Fish DIvers deal with situations and that’s been a big learning curve.
What’s the lastest news from Amed – well, Amed is a small, fishing village, black sand and cheap food. The nice thing about Amed is that it has everything you need but still has a local, traditional vibe to it. Many people are searching for a piece of paradise like this and you can find it in Amed.
Oh and by the way, did I say the people are very friendly? Yes or no, I still want to say it, their catchphrase, “Hello! How are you?” They don’t know you, but it’s in their nature to be friendly, thanks to their Indonesian culture and religion… all that with a smile! So don’t forget to smile back when they do 😉
