Last week Chris, from Virginia, USA, joined our crew in Amed to finish his training and become a Padi Divemaster with Two Fish. After he started his education in Lembongan he decided to finish his Divemaster course in Amed as Two Fish offers you to choose a maximum of three destinations to complete the first professional certification in the diving industry.
So we made sure we kept him busy! This last week our Divemaster trainee has been through several situations to build his confidence and knowledge under our guidance. First used as a victim for Sandy’s Rescue Course, Chris has been moving on and performed his stamina skills (400 meters swim – 800 meters snorkel swim – 100 meters Diver towing – 15mn Floatasion) before he gave his first Dive Briefing to our guests.
He didn’t guide this dive though, no, a local dive guide did! During this dive on the Pyramids he was busy picking up and writing down informations about the dive site in order to draw a map of it, Yes! A divermaster has to draw maps. Further on this week he’s been through a workshop called “Discover local Diving” and had to bring on a dive and take care of one of our instructor acting as foolishly as possible to test his reactivity, his rescue abilities and the managment of a safe dive profile…
I’m very proud to say he did great on that one and I had a lot of fun ! After that he was ready for the “stress test” during whome he had to exchange his scuba gear, fins and mask with a buddy using only one regulator they share.
While I was writing this chronicle of a divemaster trainee’s week, Chris was giving a Scuba Review in the pool for two guests who needed to refresh their skills. Thanks to him they will enjoy their dives a way more tomorrow. So if you ever wondered what is it to take a divemaster course, now you have a clearer idea of the way we do it at Two Fish. Greetings from Amed !
