OMG! Finally diving in Belongas, South Lombok is open again and ready for a, hopefully, spectacular season. During the low season the staff has been out training and searching for more dive sites. It has been fun and we have discovered a lot that we will dive with our guests starting this season.
During last week and this week that has been opened we have had an astonishing amount of white tip reef sharks on every dive at the Magnet and almost all on Gili Sarang but boulder city and soft coral have also had visits from these amazing creatures. The thing that I find so amazing about diving with the white tip reef sharks is that you always seem to have a bit of everything. You can have them swimming around in small groups, chilling together under hangovers or rocks and even have them following you being curious as in to who you are and why are you there. For videographers or photographers, its heaven to get up close and personal as they don’t mind, but for the non camera addicts just having the chance to see really what sharks are like underwater is out of this world. White tip reef sharks are common to Belongas so the chance to see these is extremely high.
Other than these we have been seeing a mixture from pelagic such as eagle rays, olive sea snake, schooling trevally, barracuda and tuna, to the macros of nudibranch, pygmy seashorse, isopods, frogfish etc. And we then have our inbetweeners of red tooth trigger fish, eels, lobsters, grouper and so. Belongas really has it all and in the peak of the season the variety blows through the roof!!
