Blue Ring Octopus in Gili Air.
Two different days, two different dive sites, and two different blue ring octopuses were spotted in Gili Air. The Blue Ring Octopus has to be one of the most sought after creatures to locate. Due to its small size and ability to camouflage they can be a rare sight. They easily change color and shape in an instant. The little creature is typically a beige color however when threaten their skin becomes covered in bright blue rings. Divers beware the average sized blue ring retains enough toxic to kill 26 adult humans.
The amazing creatures were spotted during an Advanced Open Water course with instructor Mermaid Meg at Frog Fish Point and Bounty Wreck. A sight that new advanced open water diver Simon will never forget as he thought all the “squealing” in the regulator was indicating a problem. Lucky for us photographer, Didan was close by and heard all the commotion and captured this incredible photo.
This week we say, “farewell” to Divemaster Trainee Ashley who joined us for two weeks getting a lot of exposure to course work then culminated her two weeks by performing a Discover Scuba Dive with our front office staff Man. Ashley was able to take Man on an assisted dive to Turtle Heaven an experience that he will never forget. We welcome new Divemaster Trainee Chris who has been put to the test completing his Rescue Course with Instructor Scuba Sal.
Instructor Kuss has been busy with Discover Scuba Divers of all ages and backgrounds, locals from Lombok and visitors from Australia.
