Cutlefish are just amazing ! These marine creatures are part of the most smartest and skilled animal of the undeerwater world. Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) is marine mollusc of the order Sepiida from the class cephalopoda. It’s close relative to octopuses, squids and nautiluses. They have a unique internal shell called the cuttlebone.

Cuttlefish have eight arms combined with two tentacles around his mouth along which we find denticulated suckers. These suckers has a “touch/taste” fonction. They can also shape these arms to forms leures. Its long body has an ogive shape and is surrounding by a long horizontal fin which is dancing like a skirt in the wind. Thanks to it the swim of the cuttlefish is full of grace. Grace that is reinforced by is camouflage skills. Like octopuses ans squid they have a skin which chromatic cells that can change color and shape within a second. The skin is also reacting to light polarization witch make them almost invisible for anyone abobe them. When you see these beauties in the shallow you can sometimes see waves of light passing through their skin, a unique show! They also use these changes to communicate to other cuttlefish.

Here in Amed we also have the famous and highly appriciated flamboyant cuttlefish (Metasepia pfefferi). It’s usually found in “muck” sites (mostly gravel and sand) and astonishing by its colours, red, yellow and purple, which are dancing like a firework.
