This week in Amed, we encountered a whole group of Cuttlefish right by the Dive center, in Melasti, a Muck Dive site in Amed, that our Dive guides can get you to discover all year round.
The Cuttlefish is an animal that belongs to the same family than the Octopus and Squid. It has the particularity to have an internal shell, the cuttlebone, giving it its oval shape, and the chance for Biologists to determine each different species by analyzing the size, shape and pattern of ridges or texture. Don’t get caught by its name, it’s not a fish but a mollusk.
You’d be quite impressed by its ability to change colors, offering our scuba divers quite a show, and sometimes you’ll see it spitting Ink to evade predators; most typically sharks, dolphins, seals, seabirds, and…..also other cuttlefish!!
The picture you see has been taken by a fundiver, Daniel Spreiter, a PADI instructor and friend, who came diving with us for a week. He was buddying with Mariscia and Willem, two highly experienced divers.
We’re also very glad to see Wayan, one of our dive guide coming back from Two Fish Divers Lembongan; a fantastic staff who will, for sure, enlighten our days in Amed.
