The first fortnight of my DM training as come to a close, along with my time on Nusa Lembongan. It’s with mixed feelings that I head to Two Fish on Bunaken to continue the course: excitement at experiencing new dive sites and working with different instructors yet a sadness in saying goodbye to the fantastic team here, just as I had begun to settle in and get to know everyone and how things work.
It has been a busy couple of weeks – mapping dive sites, conducting search and recovery exercises and of course, diving! I have never had the opportunity before to dive a site repeatedly and therefore really observe how different it can be from one day to the next. Take for example Manta Bay: a plethora of Manta rays at arm’s reach one day then the next, only a distant silhouette of one but more than made up for with a beautiful Marble ray and Bamboo shark around.
Diving in Lembongan has been a fantastic learning experience for me, both in improving my own diving skills and becoming more aware of how to increase the enjoyment and confidence in the water for others. The diversity in the conditions has provided experiences in learning to ‘read’ the currents and I’ve really enjoyed helping out in and being a part of the day to day running of a dive centre. The only down side was the quest to find a Mola not coming to fruition – and boy did we try… it is nature after all. However, I guess this just gives me a great excuse to come back again
