I arrived on Gili Air for the final three weeks of my Divemaster Training, after three great weeks in Bunaken. It was easy to adjust to Island life and Kay, the instructor, showed me a great local warung which turned into my lunch spot every day!

I stayed at Villa Karang which was lovely and nice having my room so close to the dive shop. The dive shop itself has a lovely family feel and even when it is busy it has the same friendly and calm approach which created a great environment to complete my DMT.

I extended my stay by a further two weeks and completed also my Discover Scuba Diver Leader and this is down to all the friendly staff and boat crew making my experience so enjoyable that I just couldn´t leave! The DSD Leader internship was a fantastic course and really gave me the confidence in demonstrating the skills slowly and clearly, and I cant recommend it enough.

The diving itself is mixed, some sites can get quite busy with divers and snorkelers and some sites have had a history of dynamite fishing but overall it almost makes it more interesting to find the small creatures in amongst the corals. Plus, you can´t complain when you see so many turtles seeming unbothered by you swimming past. My favourite dive sites were Halik, Manta Point and Bounty. There is a great variety of sites over all the Gili Islands.
