Divemaster Trainee in Amed – Meet Ryan
Hello! Nice to meet you all! Nolan and I arrived at Two Fish Divers Amed in early January and promptly began our journey to becoming PADI Divemasters. We both arrived with only our open water certification so there was much work to be done before even becoming a Divemaster trainee in Amed. Getting our PADI Advanced Open Water certification was number one on the to-do list. We spent two days of studying theory and practicing skills in open water. Our Instructor, Rosa, lead us through this course with grace and expertise. Our practical training consisted of underwater navigation, deep diving, night diving, drift diving and peak buoyancy performance.
It was amazing to experience the muck diving in Amed, it was unlike any diving I had ever experienced before. There were beautiful reefs and wrecks, but the best of the diving was exploring the muck for the tiny creatures that hid within. Fueled by cookies, we began diving 2-3 times a day for about a week building up to 40 dives to start our divemaster training (DMT). During this time, we explored the muck, shipwrecks and reefs found along the coast of Amed.
After the Advanced Open Water training and a week of fun dives it was time to get certified as PADI Rescue Divers. This course was led by dive manager Eze and assisted by Rosa. Together they led a thorough rescue course that got us ready to deal with any rescue scenario that could occur. We spent some time in the pool practicing rescue techniques, then soon took these techniques to open water to continue honing our skills. From search patterns to handling panicked and unconscious divers, to administering oxygen and creating emergency action plans, we did it all. After 3 days of this intensive PADI course, we were officially PADI certified Rescue Divers!

Getting ready for the swim test from the beach at Two Fish Amed
Finally, another week more of diving every day brought us to 40 dives and we began the long-awaited divemaster training. A new instructor fresh out of his instructor training arrived at this time, David. Rosa, Eze and David all played vital roles in our development as divers and future professionals. Each had a unique perspective and style of teaching which made for a learning experience that could not be beaten. The three of them made our experience at Two Fish Amed unforgettable and prepared us well for the rest of our divemaster training at the Two Fish dive site in Nusa Lembongan. Our time in Amed was simply amazing, the diving was sweet and our instructors were the best we could have asked for.
