When I initially decided to do my Divemaster Internship in Indonesia, I thought that choosing a dive center would be a difficult decision. Upon discovering that Two Fish Divers offered a DM internship spread over multiple locations the decision quickly became a no-brainer for me.
I spent the first 9 days of my internship in Bunaken, and what an interesting experience it was. The dive guides there are so talented that I quickly realized that one month wasn’t going to get me anywhere near to their skill level. The way they spot wildlife during the gorgeous wall dives must take years and years of practice to perfect. The coral gardens were so beautiful that it made it difficult for me to pay attention to anything else. Also Bunaken had easily the best looking turtles I’ve ever seen in abundance, which was a huge thrill to me (although the guides have seen so many thousands of turtles in their careers that they hardly seem to notice them at all, as they look for the highly revered macro life that the area offers.)
The other part of my time in Bunaken that I found really interesting was getting a glimpse at the operational side of running a busy dive center. As a frequent fun diver it’s easy to believe that working at a dive center is all sunshine and coral reefs, but I can tell you first hand it takes a lot of work from a lot of people to keep everything going smoothly.
All in all the first stint of my internship was extremely rewarding, with a healthy dose of stress to overcome. I’m looking forward to the next leg of my journey at the Two Fish South Lombok location.
yours,
Rob
