Technical diving Bali with Two Fish Tech!
Two Fish Tech is expanding into Amed, Bali so we can now offer technical diving in Bali! We will be offering technical diving courses and technical diving from our base in Amed, whilst our Bunaken base will remain available to qualified technical divers for guided decompression diving.
We will be based in the north-east of Bali within Two Fish Divers’ brand-new dive centre in Amed and, although we will not be starting operations until June 2016, we are taking bookings for courses and diving now.
Here are five reasons why you should come diving with our tech team in Amed.
1. It’s easy to reach
There are plenty of direct flights into Bali airport from all corners of the world. In fact, if you were to choose a flight from Darwin, Australia it would be cheaper and faster to go to Bali compared to, say, Melbourne. From Bali airport it’s an easy 2 hour car transfer direct to the dive centre.
2. It’s in the heart of ‘real Bali’
Yes, the south of Bali is very developed and can appear ‘touristy’. The north east, however, remains fairly untouched. In fact, in Amed, there are still families living off fishing and salt-making, both of which you can see happening on the beach right outside our dive centre. Many of them have built a couple of bungalows or a warung (local restaurant) to benefit from visiting divers, but it hasn’t changed the character of the village.
3. Check dives and refreshers are easy to conduct
Our dive centre has a house reef and a swimming pool, making initial equipment set-up very easy. Once you’re done, simply jump in the pool and when you’re ready just walk 10 metres across the beach to start your first dive.
The house reef lies on a slope which drops to 30 meters eventually, allowing you to pick a suitable depth to practice a valve drill, adjust your trim, change your weights and the rigging of your Sidemount tanks – you name it, it’s easily done.
Alternatively, if you are feeling rusty, it’s just as easy to go for a refresher dive here. This also makes entry level courses very easy and convenient.
4. Plenty of dive sites to choose from
Amed and Tulamben offer plenty of dive sites to choose from including drop-offs, walls and wrecks. This allows us to pick sites depending on divers’ interests, weather and water conditions, required depths and more.
Most famously, there is the USAT Liberty shipwreck, stretching 120 m long in a maximum depth of approx. 28-30 metres. This might not sound deep, dark and dangerous, but only by doing a technical dive will you get to explore it all – and actually enjoy doing your deco along the wreck rather than hanging on a shotline.
5. Big chance to spot pelagic species
Visiting the deeper parts of Amed and Tulamben’s walls means there is a good chance of spotting pelagic species including sharks and even the elusive Mola-Mola. Normally a mainstay of the area around Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, Molas have been spotted regularly along the coast of Tulamben and Amed. There have even been the odd Thresher shark sightings.
One other thing. Many of these sites are well-explored above 30m, but not so many people have seen the deeper side of the area below 30m, so you will be helping us to explore the area!
