This week in Lembongan… We have been seeing a lot of action from the feather stars that we get in the area. This has made a lot of our divers question are they a plant or a creature.They are in fact a creature, like a star fish. While Bryce has been out diving this week he has been lucky to be able to show his guests one feather star, free swimming and one slowly crawling over the reef. Seeing this action, Thomas, one of Bryce’s guest, realize that they were a creature. Like most people, all this time Thomas had been out diving, he had thought that feather stars were just a plant growing out of the reef.

The ‘arms’ of the feather star are very sticky, when you see the feather star attached to the reef with all its arms reaching out, what it is doing is fishing, well  in a way. They stretch their arms out into the water so that any small creatures passing by gets stuck to these arms. Once trapped the prey is brought down the sticky arms, to the feather star’s mouth in the middle. These sticky arms are also used as defense, the feather star can roll up into a ball, protecting all sides with there stick arms.

This week, feather stars are not the only action we have been seeing, it has also been a week of mantas. With the strong wind that we have been having in the area, it has been a hard for everyone to get around to the manta sites. But with our amazing speed boats and our talented captains we have been able to sneak around there so that our guests were able to see a few mantas.

We have also been seeing; bamboo sharks, turtles, crabs, shrimps and nudibranchs.
