We finally finished securing the new “House Wreck” on our house reef! Hopefully, it will stay there so many divers can enjoy it over the coming years.  Of course a boat sinking is always sad news for many reasons, if it was a big opportunity for us that this speedboat just sunk in our house reef, it can also a lot of damage for the environment.

But behind every event occurring is always a dark and a bright side. This House Wreck has changed a lot the ecosystem in front of Twofish Amed Resort and brings a lot of life which usually wasn’t seen there. Yellow and even giant Trevally, Moray eels, Groupers, Yellow beams and more other species have found a home in this new habitat and settled by 25m deep. So after the company gave up on a potential rescue of the ship we decided that at least we would give a try to secure it so it stays there for its new inhabitants and for our divers!

During the last few months we have been making concrete blocks that we brought down one after the other in order to tie and secure the House Wreck. This morning was the last of our dive to do so and Wis, Bayu, Wayan and Eze (Pictured above) went down to finalize this rescue mission. And it was definitely a mission! Parts of the House Wreck are at 27m where they needed securing so we had to make a carefully planned dive to allow enough time at depth. To extend the bottom time, and allow enough no decompression limit to meet all the objectives of this dive the team used Enriched Air Nitrox 32% which was revealed to be the right choice!

The House Wreck should stay there now and we hope you’ll be happy to discover it when you come to Amed! Well done everyone and welcome to our House Reef all new inhabitants!
