My name is Kate and I am four days away from finishing my divemaster program. I have been at Two Fish in Amed for almost three weeks and have been working away at finishing all of my requirements to finish the course. In addition to my rescue sequence, final exams, and search and recovery, I have learned a ton.
This past week I assisted on an open water course. It was the first one I’ve participated in that was on a slightly larger scale. I would have to say this was one of the biggest learning experiences for me during this course. There were six students total with me and my two instructors.
I got to see how a class was run with more than one student which was very exciting for me. It all started with the opportunity to teach a few how to swim which posed quite a challenge. Once we passed this obstacle, I got the chance to demonstrate some of my skills with students who were struggling.
There was quite a bit of this but I have never seen a more positive, supportive group of people. By the end of the course, we (students and staff alike) had worked our butts off, overcame many obstacles, and experienced a great amount of growth. Everyone passed the course and there were smiles all around. The energy that was felt with this particular group made me so excited to continue as a divemaster.
