We just ended our first Gili Air IDC with our partner centre Dive Zone…and again, with great success! New PADI Instructors are born!
The Gili Air tropical vibe
Gili Air is one of our new locations for our PADI IDC programme in Indonesia, and for the fans of a tropical vibe and a laid back ambiance, this is your spot! No cars, no scooters (apart from a few “electric” ones) and no other noises than the ones from the horses passing by or the push bike indicating the pedestrian that they need to pass and…the waves, the wind, the sun. Laid-back yes…but when enrolling on an IDC, obviously, of course we all know there will be need for a bit of work right!! But that’s is easy to fit in and make it easy going.
The facilities of the dive centres will still give you the laid-back feeling. Don’t worry! You could ask Ilan, Hannah and Bridget about it. Classic evaluations and classroom discussion of their Instructor development course of August 2017 were done under the sun, by the pool or the outside tables. We have respected what the tropical vibe should be even while learning about all the courses that they will be able to teach as Instructors, while debriefing their last presentation and reviewing exams.
This is the proof that teaching scuba diving doesn’t necessary have to be done in a classroom. In fact, if you were on holiday and joining a scuba lesson, we are 100% sure that you would be happy if your instructor would offer you such classroom!
Well, this is what we teach our Instructor candidates as well – how to apply all their knowledge and skills and to adapt them to a lifestyle and it’s environment. PADI has a slogan saying “The way the world learn to dive”, we use this one of course but we even push it to the next level!!
GoPro night & free sidemount trials
During our program we organised a PADI GoPro night and many people from all over Gili Air attended – thank you all for attending!! For the occasion, Yvonne, our Tech Instructor also came over from Amed to give information about what she does and offered a free sidemount trial the following day.
Its always a nice occasion to gather together Dive Masters in training and other students of all levels from different dive centers to talk about what the steps are in order to get to the dream life as some people would call it. Its a dream life true, but anyone can make the same change as we did many years ago! There is no such thing as super man or super woman!! We are human beings that simply decided to go for it, like you can all do!
More Gili Air IDC next year!
Gili Air has a lot of potential and offers great conditions to learn how to teach. Its easy to access from Lombok or Bali and surrounding Islands, this is a place to visit. And this is exactly why we decided to add an extra IDC here next year!
MSDT Instructor Internships
After the IDC we spent a few days diving around the Gili Islands and cruising on specialty dives – deep, nitrox, wreck, drift, digital underwater photography, aware shark conversation and navigation. It was an amazing time with great people and our new Instructors now have their 5 instructor specialities rating in their pocket.
What now? They are now ready to gain teaching experience. Hannah is heading to Bunaken and Bridget to Lembongan to complete their MSDT Internships at our Two Fish dive centers, so the adventure continues for them!
Next Two Fish IDCS
Our next IDC will be taking place on Amed on 20 September but please note that this program is now fully booked!
If you are interested in joining us, we still have space for our Nusa Lembongan on 29 November but you will have to be quick as spaces are running out!!!
