Happy days with a Marble Ray
We are having an awesome high diving season at Two Fish Divers in Nusa Lembongan. This week we did a lot of diving: two boats full of divers were running every day to bring our guests to the most beautiful sites around Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida Islands just off Bali. We had really international teams recently: divers come from Australia, the United States, UK, Taiwan, Singapore, France, Brazil, Chech Republic, and Germany. Many of our guests have been taking incredible holidays and visiting several locations of Two Fish Divers during the same trip. Combining resorts gives our guests the advantage of enjoying high season in the best places to dive in Indonesia.
Crystal Bay
One of the most popular places in our local area is Crystal Bay, where divers look forward to meeting Mola-Mola. But it is not only the Oceanic sunfish which gives divers happy moments underwater – Crystal Bay is where we have sightings of numerous big fish species, including marble ray sightings. This week we spotted a HUGE Marble Ray in Crystal Bay where it was resting on the reef. These creatures are very common in our area and are easily identified by their large circular body that has black/grey/white mottled surface, a thick and rounded pectoral fin disc that is covered with tubercles and a short tail with a prominent deep ventral skin that extends up to the tip of their tail.
During daytime hours they are often motionless where you can find them on the reef bottom, often at the depth over 20 meters. Sometimes they are just passing by in the blue away from the reef, showing us their beautiful swimming style. The marble ray in Crystal Bay was having resting on a coral plateau and seemed absolutely fine to meet with our group of divers, letting us come much closer than usual. His big eyes on top of his body were observing us with much interest, but this is a harmless species and very docile.
