Belongas, South Lombok…..attracts those who are in need of encountering plenty of pelagic fish but it rare for us here to bump into the almighty Sunfish otherwise known as Mola Mola.
There have been a few sightings over the years but it is something that we don’t count on.
Last week at Gili Sarang, south side the water temperature was 20ºC, 15 Meters visibility and there it was hanging in the blue at 26 Meters surrounded by banner fish! Our divers plus guide could not believe their eyes or luck!! It was a special day for all on the boat that day as during the first dive they saw 20+ Hammerheads, 7 white tip reef sharks, Big school of Big eye trevally, clown triggerfish and of course eagle rays.
Unfortunately with the water temperature being so low that day they did not get to see the Mobula Rays but were ecstatic with the Mola Mola.
Later on during the week we had yet another surprise…Dolphins yes dolphins also at the dive site Gili Sarang. As Uwe, David and i descended we could hear their communication, frantically looking around we spotted them at around 17 Meters.
Six dolphins hanging vertical in the water 5-6 meters away from us, they stayed with us for 10 minutes which is unusual for divers as the dolphins usually do not like the sound of the bubbles. We could not believe how lucky we had been. An experience that can never be forgotten.
Belongas being in the Indian Ocean we never know what we are going to run into, truly an incredible and exciting experience.
