The last few days we saw so many octopuses active and not hiding that we are wondering if it is mating season here.
We found a quiet big octopus while we were exploring our bounty wreck. And we were also lucky to have our professional videographer Didan with us on our dive so he was able to catch it on video.
A lot of divers are fascinated about octopuses and so am I. I am absolutely in love with this amazing creatures. What makes them so amazing? let me try to explain it to you:
– Which creature has three hearts – the octopus. Two of the hearts are working only to pump blood beyond the animal´s gills, while the third one is circulating the blood flow for the organs. The third heart stops beating when the octopus is swimming, which is one of the reason why you see this creature mostly crawling over the seabed rather than swimming as this is too exhausting.
– The octopus ejects ink for self-defense – how cool is this?! 🙂 It does not only hide the animal, it also physically harms enemies when sprayed in the predators eyes causing blinding irritation.
– Octopuses are very intelligent. They can navigate through mazes, solve problems and remember solutions.
The octopuses arms have a mind of their own. This means the arms can solve for instance how to open a shellfish while their owners are busy doing something else like checking out a cave for some more edible goodies.
There are so many more cool facts about this “eight foot” animals. Just come diving with us and we will show you some octopuses and share some more interesting facts about them!
