In Belongas, South Lombok this week we have had a huge amount of sightings of the Banded Sea Snake. Black colour with white bands running down their entire body. They are extremely graceful and are usually spotted swimming around sticking their heads into most rocks and crevices looking for food.
Three day trips this week we have spotted at least 5 per dive, this is unusual for us here we mainly only spot 2 if we are lucky. The main dive site for the Banded sea snake is Gili Sarang, but we have had them at all 4 main dives sites: The Magnet, The Cathedral and The Blue Hole.
Among the snakes we have still had big big schools of Hammerheads, Mobula Rays, Barracudas, Tuna, Eagle rays and of course our locals the White Tip Reef sharks.
It is so far a busy season for us here in South Lombok with Belongas boats going out every day.
The start of our second accommodation and boat out in Pangang Bay is running well and all divers have thoroughly enjoyed their stay and been thrilled with the dives…. Who wouldn’t be with all those fish!!
We are also noticing a rise in the amount of juvenile oriental sweetlips and juvenile many spotted sweetlips at Gili Sarang. They are absolutely fascinating to watch as the dance around a rock and move on to another. Underwater photographers really have their work cut out for them with these magnificent fish.
